INTRODUCTION
The ultra compact design of the DS321 makes this dual-bay RAID storage enclosure one of the smallest in the market, yet it still packs a punch when it comes to flexibility and performance. Installing 3.5” hard drives are quick and easy, thanks to its screw-less design. By incorporating USB 3.0 SuperSpeed technology, the DS321 is capable of delivering up to 10 times the speed of older USB connection while maintaining backward compatibility with the widely used USB 2.0 technology.

Remark
In order for the computer to access volumes larger than 2TB, both hardware and operating system need to support large volumes (e.g. Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Mac OS 10.4 and above)
USB 3.0 is currently not available for Mac OS but the device can still be used with the older USB 2.0 connection.

DS321 firmware
Windows XP does not natively support hard drive capacity above 3TB. This firmware will enable Windows XP to support hard drives above 3TB.
Update method: Download this firmware and extract the files. Make sure DS321 is connected and detected by your system before running firmware update file.

  • Q. Can I connect this device to a USB 2.0 host?
    A: Yes, this device is backwards compatible with USB 2.0.
  • Q. What file system should I choose to format my drive?
    A: This will depend on how you want to use the drive but in general, we recommend:
    • Windows Vista/7 NTFS
    • Mac OS X HFS+ (Mac OS Extended)
    • To use it on both PC and Mac FAT32 (single file size is limited to 4GB)
  • Q. How many drives can fail before I lose my data?
    A: For RAID 0, any drive failure will result in the data being lost. For RAID 1, more than one drive failure at the same time will mean the data can not be recovered anymore. For Non-RAID, only the data on the defective drive will be lost.
